THE REDRUTH AND CHASEWATER RAILWAY 1824-1915
By D>B> Barton

This railway existed solely for the mineral industry in the Cambrone-Redruth area. This four foot gauge line was Cornwall's first true railway and it played a considerable and important part in the saga of copper mining in Western Cornwall.
From its inception in 1824 to its closing in 1915 the Redruth & Chasewater remained independent financially and physically of all other railways--untouched by the consolidation mania that overtook almost every other British local line. To the last day it ran, it remained purely mineral, the link between the great Gwennap mines and the nearest tidewater, carrying coal and ore. Paperback, 5x8, 56 pages, black and white photos, index, front cover is creased, back cover smudged, one inscription written inside front cover, inside pages clean, good condition overall, published 1960, $10 USA.
